TWO councils have apologised and launched a recovery plan after missing bin collections for scores of residents.

The first three weeks of new bin rounds in the East Hampshire and Winchester districts has seen many people not having their recycling or refuse collected on time.

Council leaders said a plan has been put in place to ensure the majority of missed bins will have been collected by the end of Monday with the remainder emptied during the week.

Up to 20 crews will be out over the course of this weekend.

The disruption has occurred after the councils merged their bins service and signed a contract with Biffa Waste Services Ltd to cover the two areas.

A statement from Biffa said: ‘The managers and crews of Biffa would like to apologise sincerely for the recent disruption to refuse and recycling service. Please be assured that we are fully committed to providing additional resources to clear missed collections as quickly as possible, and allow the crews to focus on their daily schedules.’
