Red Bull Matadors ready to soar above the Solent during 2016 America's Cup World Series

THEY went down a storm at last year's America's Cup World Series in Portsmouth.

And the Red Bull Matadors have been booked to put on another stunning aerobatic display at the 2016 city cup regatta, featuring Portsmouth-based sailing side Land Rover BAR.

The show, taking place on Sunday, July 24, features two stunt planes flying through the skies, often just a few feet apart. Pilots will fly at speeds of up to 250mph in a series of loops, dives, near-misses and spectacular smoke displays.

They have flown and competed all over the world, and organisers say their display was a highlight of last year’s Portsmouth event.

Two more aerial display teams are set to be announced for the cup weekend, along with other onshore attractions. Extreme sport demos will also take place at Southsea Skatepark.

Spectators will be able to watch the racing and aerial displays from a ticketed race village, featuring live commentary, a main stage, a technology zone and other exhibits.

This year the Southsea Common area outside the race village will be unticketed and unrestricted, so families can bring a picnic and watch the Red Bull Matadors and the sailing action.
