COUNCILLORS have given a supermarket the go-ahead to open in one of Portsmouth’s busiest streets.

Sainsbury’s won approval last week to open a new store at 77-79 Palmerston Road, Southsea – replacing the current KFC and Pizza Hut.

Despite objections from police and local people, councillors granted the shop a licence to sell alcohol from 6am to 11pm – the same hours as the nearby Co-op.
