THE landowner of a £4m hotel project has said it will bring new jobs to the area.

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has welcomed Fareham Borough Council’s decision to give the plans for the Coldeast site in Sarisbury Green the green light.

As well as the renovation of the derelict mansion into a 27-room hotel, there will also be 168 homes, 40 sheltered housing units and a cemetery, a swimming pool and allotments. The HCA says the hotel will create 15 jobs.

Kevin Bourner, HCA head of area, said: “This decision is great news for Fareham.

‘It will bring much-needed new and affordable homes to the borough and help restore a historic local building which has been standing empty for 15 years.

‘This is a hugely significant project for us. We have worked closely with local residents and groups to listen to their views about the proposals for this site. They have helped shape the proposal approved by councillors.

‘In many ways, the hard work starts now and we will be focused on getting the necessary building blocks in place so that we can start turning the bold vision for this project into reality.’
