A WEATHER satellite part-built in Portsmouth is ready to launch.

Metop-B is a European polar orbiting weather satellite designed and manufactured by Astrium, which is now ready to launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Astrium in Portsmouth designed and built the Microwave Humidity Sounder, which scans the Earth’s atmosphere to measure radiation, and from that determine water vapour content (clouds, precipitation, humidity) at various altitudes.
