SHOPPER Kenneth Green picked up more than he bargained for after he won £500 on a scratchcard from a convenience store.

Mr Green, a self-employed gas serviceman, of Collins Road, Eastney, won the money as part of the Lucky Locals campaign run by Southern Co-operative.

He shops at the Co-op store in Highland Road.

The 64-year-old said: ‘I went to the store as we didn’t have any milk.

‘I got home and scratched the card and couldn’t believe I had won £500.

‘I have two grandchildren, one who is four, and the other is 10 weeks old, so the money will come in handy for Christmas presents.’

Store manager Alex Lamb said ’We’re really pleased Mr Green won, especially as he lives locally and is a loyal customer.’

Last week The News gave away vouchers for readers to claim a free scratchcard.
