A BRANCH of high street stationers WH Smith has been named as the best in the country.

The store at Whiteley Shopping centre, which has traded since the redevelopment of the centre in 2013, was short-listed for a national award.

It competed against 560 other WH Smith stores across the UK.

Store manager Cath Duce travelled to London and was delighted to accept the National Store Profit Award for 2016 on behalf of her store, and her team.

The award is the culmination of a year of work to develop the range of products available at Whiteley.

This includes the launch of the Bright stationery range, increasing the number of book titles in store, and promoting the free delivery to store service.

The team is now looking forward to a celebration with the company providing £1,000 towards a night out.

Cath, the store manager of the Whiteley and Fareham stores, said she was delighted to accept the award.

She said: ‘I was really pleased to collect our award on behalf of the wonderful team at Whiteley.

‘They have worked so hard this year and fully deserve this fantastic achievement.’

Neil Carter, centre manager at Whiteley Shopping Centre, added: ‘I was thrilled to hear of the success of WH Smith in Whiteley. Cath and her team fully deserve the award.

‘It’s great to see stores in Whiteley celebrating more success.’
