INDEPENDENT inspector David Hogger has asked Fareham Borough Council to clarify its approach to protecting community facilities within district shopping centres.

He made the request at the third day of the Development Sites and Policies Plan examination being held at Fareham Civic Offices yesterday.

Mr Hogger examined the Locks Heath and Portchester district centres and heard from residents about whether there is the need for additional retail floorspace.

Residents also raised concerns about the proposed extension of the retail boundary for the district centre and whether that should include a number of existing community facilities.

The inspector asked the council to clarify its approach to protecting community facilities within district centres.
