AROUND 550 Portsmouth small and medium size businesses have benefitted from more than £74m through the government’s Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS).

Paul Marston, managing director for NatWest Commercial Banking covering the region, said: ‘We want to be the best bank for businesses in the UK and the discounted finance we have been offering to customers under FLS is just one way we are doing that.”

‘To date we have written to more than 23,000 businesses across the country offering £6.6bn of new lending.

‘We want to lend more money.

‘We are the number one lender to SMEs in the UK but we know there are still businesses out there who want to borrow, to invest and grow.’

Last week, the two banks set out plans to make it easier and simpler for SMEs to work with the bank.
