RETAILERS are vital to ensure our high streets are thriving and to keep the economy growing.

That’s why Snows BMW have come forward to show their support for The News’ Business Excellence awards for the second time.

The firm, based on the Eastern Road in Portsmouth, is sponsoring the Retailer of the Year award.

Mark Trapani is the group managing director. He said he is thrilled to show support to the awards again.

‘This is the second year that we at Snows BMW and Mini have sponsored the Business Excellence awards,’ he said.

‘As a long-established retailer in a tough market area we know how important it is to strive to be the best in your chosen industry.

‘It is usually the people who make the difference when it comes to retail and what a difference it makes when you walk into any organisation to be met by a smiling, happy and knowledgeable person.

‘Often the initial approach may make a customer feel confident about spending their money with that organisation.

‘We at Snows love our market area and want to see Portsmouth prosper and grow.

‘Annual competitions like this help focus business owners to focus on their customers.

‘If we were all to raise our game, the benefits to the wider community would become clearly evident and a happy Portsmouth is a successful Portsmouth.

‘We expect the level of entrants to be higher than last year and completing the “mystery shops” on the shortlisted retailers make it great fun and quite a challenge for the judges.’

Now we are encouraging businesses from across the area to get their entries in for a chance to win an award and help their firm to be recognised for all the hard work put in over the last year.

Last year, firm Just Develop It, won Overall Business of the Year, Employer of the Year and Business Personality of the Year award for CEO Chris Phillips.

There are 16 categories, covering all types of businesses including Innovation of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Employer of the Year and Team of the Year, as well as the Overall Business of the Year award.

The awards are being sponsored by BAE Systems.

All nominees will be invited to a ceremony which will be held at Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday, February 12, 2016.
