SUCCESSFUL small business Southsea Bathing Hut was highlighted as one of the campaign’s top 100 companies.

For the past two years, 100 firms have been named as shining examples of small business and were set to join the Small Business Saturday team at a reception in Downing Street with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, today.

Southsea Bathing Hut was founded by Samantha Worsey, from Southsea, who turned her lifelong love of ‘making’ into a business, producing artisan soap.

She said: ‘We are proud to be bringing a lost heritage industry back to Portsmouth.

‘The Southsea Bathing Hut brand ties into a growing wave of proudly home-grown Portsmouth businesses.

‘We are ambitious to see soap made in the city make waves around the world once more. The company has only been trading since March this year, with a big focus on building a presence at Hampshire and Sussex markets. For me, running a small business means taking pride in your products, serving the community and happiness.’

Ms Worsey said her products are stocked at a number of local places.

She said: ‘We are well embedded within the local small business networks, offering advice and support where we can.

‘We stock our stuff at a number of gift shops and B&Bs in Portsmouth, thereby establishing good relationships based on mutual support.

‘We also attend events specifically designed to generate trade for small local businesses, such as the Daisy Chain Festival, organised by the Albert Road Independent Traders Association.’

Southsea Bathing Hut will be offering a 10 per cent discount online at southseabathinghut.co.uk. They will also be selling at Love Southsea Market, Palmerston Road, Southsea, on Saturday.
