HI-TECH software is being used by a Spanish shipbuilding firm to help build new naval ships and submarines.

The Paramarine software, developed by naval software provider QinetiQ GRC, will calculate how stable new vessels including frigates, patrol boats and corvettes are.

The software has already been used by leading shipbuilders and University College London.

Sebastian Abril, head of naval platforms department at Navantia, said: ‘We wanted to extend our marine design capabilities through the acquisition of additional vessel design software.

‘We selected Paramarine not only because of its functionality and track record but also its ability to handle both submarines and surface vessels, particular with regard to early stage design work.’
