HUNDREDS of Solent youngsters learnt about career opportunities in aviation and aerospace at the Farnborough International Airshow on Friday.
Around 200 pupils, aged between 11 to 18, were wowed by flying displays and activity trails, and had the rare opportunity to talk to experts from the fields of the aerospace and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The trip was arranged by Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which is on a mission to boost the region’s already booming aerospace industry.
As well as getting career advice, the pupils also had the opportunity to see the future of aviation.
Solent LEP director and lead for employment skills, Chris Allington, said: ‘We’re very proud to be able to work with our partners to bring this opportunity to children in the Solent.
‘It’s incredibly important that the public and private sectors work together to nurture the next generation of workers in this key industry for the region.’
Southampton Airport was among the companies which sponsored buses to transport pupils to the event.
