PORTSMOUTH City Council is expected to name the ‘premium brand’ which will own the naming rights to the Spinnaker Tower in the next few days.

Council leader Donna Jones revealed last month that a commercial sponsor of the 560ft tower was being sought in time for the America’s World Cup Series sailing event in July.

The company will have the naming rights for five years with branding in place as early as July 17.

It is hoped the branding of the tower will raise a significant amount of revenue for the council but any changes would have to go through the planning process. The tower is owned by the council and run by a private attractions management company.
