The sports giant joins Aldi, Wickes and Halfords as the four chains to make up Phase One of the Barnfield Drive retail park, now confirmed for the first time.

Located to the north-east of the city, between Chichester and Westhampnett, the four stores will be opposite Homebase.

The addition of Aldi means there will be three supermarkets within close proximity of each other, with Sainsbury’s and Lidl already close by, just off the A27.

As pictured in the Brookhouse Group plans, Wickes, Sports Direct and Halfords will move into the block to the east of the site, currently under construction.

Outline permission has been granted for the large unit to the east where Aldi will go, with full permission sought this week.

Phase Two of Barnfield Drive will run to the south-west of Phase One, alongside the crematorium, with no stores as yet confirmed.

Though many will welcome the new retailers, concern has been raise over increased traffic, as well as the negative effect the emerging out of town shops will have on city centre trade.
