AROUND 60 homes in Southsea were left in the dark for hours because of a fault with underground cabling.

Homes in Napier Road and Gains Road powered by SSE were without electricity between 4.30pm and 11pm yesterday.

A spokesman for the energy company said a specialist was on site at around 8.15pm, with excavation having to take place to find the fault before it could be fixed.

He said: ‘We sent an engineer out to assess the fault and replaced some fuses at the substation.

‘It has been found to be a fault with underground cabling. To get to the fault there will have been be some excavation work.’
