STAFF from a new supermarket met people living nearby.

Sainsbury’s employees from the new Waterlooville store, on Hambledon Road, held an event at the Springwood Community Centre to meet potential customers.

As well as having products on display, staff told customers about the new store and its progress.

They also had a community board showing the different fundraisers the other Sainsbury’s stores in the area have held to raise money.

Phil Bridgwater, manager of the store, which is set to open on December 3, said: ‘A large percentage of our new employees are people in the Waterlooville area.

‘That was very important to us when we decided to build a store there.

‘So we wanted to show our faces to the community and meet them and tell them about the new store.’

Joy Coad and Rick Downham, from Bedhampton, went along to the event.

Joy said: ‘I think it’s great for us to meet staff and see what will be happening in the new store.’
