PICKING up parcels on Sundays is soon to be a reality as Royal Mail prepares to launch a pilot programme.

The delivery office in Slindon Street, Portsmouth will be open on Sunday, September 7 from midday to 4pm.

Operations director Geoff Braden said the initiative was designed to make it easier for online shoppers who are not at home during the day on weekdays to get their parcels.

Mr Braden said: ‘We are continuing to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online.

‘I am delighted to pilot Sunday afternoon opening at 100 of our delivery offices across the UK with the highest parcel volumes, including Portsmouth.’

In June, Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, also launched a Sunday delivery service for online shoppers.
