A SUPERMARKET chain is to turn one of its Portsmouth branches into an energy-efficient store.

The Morrisons in Anchorage Park has had a £1.5m overhaul, which includes new energy-saving fridges and lighting, that will substantially reduce the store’s carbon footprint.

The transformation of the store is already under way and will take around 16 weeks to complete, with the store remaining open throughout.

General manager Chris Williams said: ‘The store’s going to be fantastic once it’s finished and I’m pleased we’re doing our bit for the environment – we’re asking shoppers to bear with us if products aren’t in their usual place and if you can’t find something just ask.

‘It’s important the store is fit for the future. It’s a great investment and once the work’s finished the store will feel much lighter and more airy.’
