PEOPLE in Fareham are being encouraged to support local shops ahead of ‘Independence Day’ on Monday.

Fareham Town Centre Management is supporting a national initiative to support local independent shops and retailers.

There are currently more than 90 independent shops and retailers in the town. Many of them have been trading in the town for years, but new entrepreneurs have also set up business.

On Monday, customers will be encouraged to buy items from them.

David Roberts, co-owner of Rovers Fishing Tackle said: ‘Successful town centres are a balance of national multiples and independent specialists, offering a wide choice of goods to their local communities.

‘This initiative is an excellent way of reminding customers that we are here and encouraging them to pay us a visit.’
