NINETY-YEAR-OLD curry fan Leonard Russell loves getting a takeaway from Cosham Balti House.
Now he’s got even more reason to keep going back because the family-run business, in Tregaron Avenue, Portsmouth, has been named the best in the region for the second year running.
It was once again crowned top takeaway specialising in south-Asian food in the south-east of England at the Asian Curry Awards.
Cosham Balti House beat off competition from about 50 other finalists.
Mr Russell, of Cosham, has enjoyed getting dinner there with his wife, Jean, 92, since the business started 22 years ago.
‘I have regularly enjoyed meals purchased from the Cosham Balti House since it opened 22 years ago, because my wife and I like curries and we have always known that we would have a splendid meal,’ he said.
‘We have tried several of them but, of course, we have favourites.
‘The range of extra accompaniments is also very attractive. Whatever we choose, we know that we shall enjoy a meal of excellent quality.’
Mr Russell said he also holds the place in high regard because during his time in the RAF, he was based in an area of south-east Asia, where the takeaway’s owners are originally from.
‘The staff are extremely friendly there,’ added Mr Russell
‘I was visiting the hospital one time and, as I walked through a corridor, one of the members of staff from the takeaway greeted me and treated me like an old friend.’
Mahmud Hussain, owner of Cosham Balti House, said he can thank his customers, excellent ingredients and hard-working staff for his success.
His produce is sourced from suppliers in London.
‘I am very pleased,’ he said.
‘We put in a lot of hard-work and we like to keep a clean place.
‘The food we serve is of the highest quality.
‘We have many loyal customers like Mr and Mrs Russell.
‘I enjoy my job, I like to serve customers good food that they will enjoy.
‘I am very friendly with my customers.’
