IT’s a handy port of call for shoppers who fancy a tasty roll or pasty on their stomp around town.
Now Greggs in Portsmouth’s Lord Montgomery Way is celebrating after it was crowned the best branch in the UK.
The city centre bakery fended off competition from 1,200 other Greggs stores to clinch the title – based on its ‘excellent all round performance’ over the past 12 months.
Judges said it had demonstrated ‘outstanding customer service, excellent shop sales and profit controls as well as great teamwork.’
Shop manager, Micky Smith, said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted we’ve won.
‘This is a great accomplishment for our team and we’ll continue to do our best in providing an excellent service for our customers.’
Greggs shops were awarded points on a weekly basis across a number of categories.
Those entering the final rounds of the competition received up to six unannounced visits by regional management teams, as well as head of central retail operations, Mike Kavanagh and retail director Raymond Reynolds, to assess standards.
Mr Reynolds spoke of his pride.
He said: ‘This is an incredible achievement by Micky and all of her colleagues.
‘It’s obvious how much they enjoy serving their local community and how committed they are to delivering the highest operational standards consistently.
‘This award celebrates the excellent retail standards the team have created, they should all be extremely proud of themselves, just as we are to have them in our business.’
