PORTSMOUTH company MarketMakers is marking its tenth year in business by being named the UK’s top business-to-business telemarketing agency.
The firm began a decade ago at Portsmouth’s Technopole, matching up firms that have something to sell, with customers who need to buy.
It’s a simple concept that has seen the company grow to more than 350 staff and move offices twice – first to Quartremaine Road in Hilsea, and then to 1000 Lakeside in North Harbour.
The firm has also added two divisions – its Really B2B marketing company, and its Lead Forensics web analysis firm.
Henry Braithwaite, MarketMakers operations director, said the secret of the company’s success is its investment in its staff.
‘What we do is a really niche skill and something we have to work very hard at to get right.
‘We’re a people business, and we focus on training, development, and the motivation of the guys here. In March we got an award for having the best staff development in the UK.
‘In a service business like ours, if our staff are happy our customers are happy.’
The firm was named Top B2B Marketing Agency in the UK by industry publication B2B Marketing.
It received 90 per cent of its gross income from B2B marketing, and has grown its gross income by 10 per cent every year, so easily beat the other seven firms in its category to claim the award.
Mr Braithwaite said: ‘It’s an amazing accolade and it’s a great start to the year.
‘Everyone has worked very hard for it and we’re delighted it’s been achieved just in time for our tenth anniversary in March.
‘We’re very much looking forward to the next 10 years.’
The firm turned over a total of £14m last year, and is on course to reach £20m in 2014.
It is also looking to expand its offices within 1000 Lakeside, adding another 2,000sq ft.
The firm will also be creating another 15 management positions on its team.
