TODAY sees the launch of the 2012 Business Excellence Awards – and they’re going to be bigger and better than ever before.

The News is inviting every single business in the Portsmouth area to enter the awards and celebrate what makes our location the best for business.

It’s a chance for businesses to really shout about what sets them apart from the pack, and those lucky enough to be shortlisted will be invited to a glittering ceremony at the Guildhall on February 10.

Once again the awards have been sponsored by one of our biggest local success stories, BAE Systems.

This year we’ve shaken the awards up somewhat.

We’ve expanded the categories to include Apprentice of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Start-up of the year and we have a category for Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure.

We have also combined our previous categories of Business Personality and Achiever of the Year into one.

Our Community Contribution category has expanded to include firms which have been dedicated to improving their green credentials.

And for the first time, each of the winners in our 12 categories will go head-to-head for the chance to be crowned overall Business of the Year.

Not only that, but each of the category winners will also be automatically entered into the prestigious Southern Business Awards.

Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said: ‘The new categories make it even easier for all our firms, not matter what sector of business they’re in, to find a way to shout about what makes them great.

‘We look forward to the Business Excellence Awards every year, because it’s a chance for us to find out more about our local success stories.

‘We’ve now expanded our categories, so now we want to hear from more businesses than ever before.

‘I’d also like to thank our sponsors for supporting The News’ Business Excellence Awards 2012.’

The nomination form, which includes the entry criteria for all the categories, will be available from Monday at portsmouth.co.uk

They need to be emailed to emma.judd@thenews.co.uk, or sent to her care of the Editorial Department, The News Centre, Hilsea, PO2 9SX, by December 30.
