MOST firms would like to think their employees carry a torch for them, but for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars it has happened literally.
The prestige car company was allocated two places on the Olympic torch relay on Monday, and asked employees to nominate the two lucky bearers.
George Middleton carried the flame through Chichester, and was recognised for his many sporting challenges for charity, including swimming the English Channel.
He was honoured for the work he does in helping his staff at Rolls-Royce develop their potential.
Gareth Ferguson was one of those given the task of carrying the torch out of Portsmouth on Monday.
He was recognised for his commitment in running a boxing club for his community.
A spokesman for the firm said it was ‘enormously proud’ of George and Gareth.
The pair were welcomed back to the firm’s headquarters in Goodwood by taking a ‘torch bearer walk’ down the assembly line, with the full workforce invited to cheer them along.
