Passengers can have their say on improvements being made to train routes.

South West Trains has put together the Wessex Route Study which will look at improving journeys from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour and other stations in the south.

Potential changes include flyovers, sections of the track being 125mph and the development of cab-based signalling.

Tim Shoveller, chief executive of the Network Rail-South West Trains Alliance, said: ‘Work we are already doing over the next five years will make a huge difference to our railway.

‘But we need to do more, and do it quickly.

‘The plans we are proposing in this study mean we will be able to cope with a forecast growth of 40 per cent on main line services over the next 30 years.’
