SPECIALIST travel agents visited Portsmouth International Port to discover why the city is an increasingly popular point of departure for explorer cruises and small ships.

The Cruise Lines International Association held its Expedition and Small Ship Expo, where the attendees – all experts in cruise holidays – discussed the latest industry developments and listened to representatives from leading cruise operators.

Among those speaking at the Expo were representatives from Windstar, Hurtigruten, Silversea and Paul Gaugin.

As well as seeing facilities designed for cruise passengers, the agents took a tour of the cruise ship Voyager during her turnaround call at the port.

The port’s harbour master, Rupert Taylor, said: ‘It was the perfect opportunity for the agents to have a look around, and enjoy a tour onboard whilst hearing why Portsmouth is an important part of the itinerary.

Portsmouth International Port will see more than 35 cruise ship calls and visits in 2015.
