BANKING giant HSBC says it is unable to confirm which branches will be affected by the upcoming job cuts.

As announced earlier in the week, the bank plans to cut 8,000 jobs in the UK as it tries to reduce costs.

The bank has 48,000 UK workers and will make cuts in both its retail and investment banking operations.

Branches across the area have shut recently, including one in Lee-on-the-Solent.

HSBC was unable to comment on whether cuts will impact on plans to move its offices from Southampton to Whiteley.
