THE people have voted and the top three small retailers of the year have been picked.

Following The News’ hunt to find the very best small high street businesses, a public vote was held.

That put Heming & Co, in The Square, Wickham, at the top. It has been selling kitchenware, gift ware, hardware and pet products for almost 120 years.

Heming and Co was closely followed by Queen’s Parade Newsagents, Privett Road, Gosport and Preloved Portsmouth, in Palmerston Road, Southsea.

They were chosen from a shortlist of 16 independent shops from across The News area which all have bags of charm and character and where staff put the customers first.

Our events team will be contacting the winners in the next few days to arrange to present them with a trophy.
