A NEW hotel in the city has hit the ground running, according to the manager.
After four years of planning and construction, Village Hotel in Lakeshore Drive, off Western Road, has seen interest from businessmen and women.
The hotel, which has created 125 new jobs, aims to serve as a one-stop-shop for people on business trips to the city.
As well as the 153 rooms, the hotel features a swimming pool and sauna, a business club, restaurant, bar and a gym – including cycling sessions with The Trip from Les Mills.
General manager of Village Hotel Portsmouth Pedro Mendes said the site had been custom-built with professionals in mind.
He said: ‘We are really excited to bring the Village Hotel into Portsmouth.
‘We have had the land for the past four years so it is great to finally be open.
‘This is a great site for people on business trips – we are perfectly situated with Lakeside around the corner.
‘It is a comprehensive site, with so much going on under the one roof.’
Mr Mendes believed that the secret to success was to engage with the community.
He said: ‘We want to be as involved as possible with the local area.
‘People can hold parties here, use the facilities here and make the most of the free parking outside.’
Mr Mendes said the hotel had been immediately successful, with bookings being taken right up to 2018.
He said: ‘Some dates for the rest of this month are already fully booked, which is fantastic news.
‘I have never seen a hotel launch go as smoothly as this one in my career, and that is thanks to the Portsmouth-based staff we have brought in.
‘They have been great.’
