Christmas is almost upon us so here are the revised bin collection dates for the Portsmouth area over the festive break.

No councils will be collecting rubbish or recycling on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

-----

Portsmouth

Refuse and recycling will be collected as normal until December 26. The collection will then take place a day later until January 7.

Residents are being advised to recycle all card/cardboard (including Christmas cards) but wrapping paper cannot be recycled.

As usual paper, plastic bottles, aerosol cans, food and drink tins can be recycled.

Carrier bags, black sacks, drink cartons and plastic/polystyrene packaging cannot be recycled.

Empty glass bottles and jars can be taken to glass banks, and clothing can be taken to textile bank.

-----

Gosport

There will be no changes to refuse and recycling collections between Boxing Day and New Years Day.

The collection crews will be working bank holidays so wheeled bins will be emptied in the usual way from 7.00 am on the usual collection days. For the first two collections following Christmas only, the council will take additional refuse left by the side of bins.

The extra waste should be put into normal waste bags and recycling materials should put in any sack other than black or in a cardboard box next to the recycling bin.

Gosport Borough council is also offering free Christmas tree collection on normal garden waste days, from January 9 to 13 2017.

-----

Fareham

Refuse and recycling will be collected as normal until December 26. Collections will then take place a day later until Thursday January 5.

Garden waste collections are suspended from 16 December until 16 January.

The council will also collect real Christmas trees for recycling on normal recycling days from Monday 16 January.

The public have been told not to chop up their trees (One tree per property, max. trunk diameter 10cm).

-----

East Hampshire

Non-recyclable and recyclable waste will be collected as normal until Christmas Eve. The collection will then take place a day later until Saturday January 7.

The bins will still be collected during icy and snowy conditions and real Christmas trees will be collected in garden waste throughout January.

-----

Havant

Non-recyclable and recyclable waste will be collected as normal until December 26. The collection will then take place a day later until Saturday January 7.

Havant council is not offering any Christmas tree disposal service so residents are being advised to take their trees to their local tip.

-----

Winchester

They will however be collecting real Christmas trees on normal scheduled garden waste collection day from week commencing January 9.

All decorations should be removed form the tree before it is disposed.

Garden waste will be suspended over Christmas and New Year from December 23 to January 9.
