PERSISTENCE and dedication paid off for a man from Portchester who won £10,000 in a quiz.
It was the second year running that Andrew Ward had taken part in Heart FM’s Who’s on Heart competition.
And this year he guessed correctly and came away with the cash.
To win the money Andrew had to name the voice of a famous celebrity.
The 51-year-old said: ‘The year before, I got through, but I got the name wrong.
‘My wife had it right and she didn’t let me forget about it so I couldn’t wait for the competition to start again this year. I even said to my wife “I’m going to win this time”.
Luckily for Andrew he recognised the voice after watching the woman – whose name must be kept secret – on Loose Women.
Andrew said: ‘From the start, I did have a hunch and thought it could be that person so looked them up on YouTube. I thought I’d go for it. I was very lucky to make the call and have it picked up. And then to get the question right.’
Unemployed Andrew said the money has come at just the right time after his Christmas truck driving job came to an end. He hopes now to use the cash to set up his own business providing luxury pods at festivals.
Andrew also said the money will buy him a much longed-for airfare to see an old friend in Australia.
This was the first celebrity in the line up of three and as there are still cash prizes up for grabs, Andrew cannot repeat the lucky name.
A prize of £20,000 is offered for the next person to guess a celebrity name and the first person to correctly guess all three celebrities will win £40,400, which continues to rise daily.
Heart presenter Toby Anstis said: ‘It was obvious from Andrew’s reaction that he was in complete shock.
‘It’s such a fun competition. I’d urge listeners to make the phone call – you never know, you could be the next lucky winner!’
Who’s on Heart runs from Monday to Saturday from 9am.
