BUSINESS secretary Vince Cable visited the Babcock Engineering Academy at HMS Sultan in Gosport to find out first-hand what’s on offer to apprentices.
This week is National Apprenticeship Week, and ahead of his visit, the minister announced funding for 75,000 extra apprenticeship places.
He said: ‘In Germany 90 per cent of large businesses have a training scheme, but in Britain it is only 30 per cent.
‘We want to see more companies offering apprenticeships, and to recognise the benefits they would get from offering them.
‘I’ve been inspired by my visit today, and we need to ensure that there’s enough supply to meet the demand.’
