Ian Kane,

Southsea 11/01/2008 00:52:36
The council needs to change its attitude to license and leaseholders who service amenities e.g. Model Village etc. Licensees cannot afford to invest in these assets if they are struggling to pay council business taxes. The council is not in competition to see who can squeeze the most from these assets. People willing to invest in these amenities should be welcomed with open arms and encouraged to upgrade buildings and provide an excellent and satisfying service to customers. There is a derelict cafe next to the pier (neglected for nearly 10 years now. An extortionate ice cream concession (and eyesore) which no one will touch. No toilets on the North side of Canoe Lake where the amenities are, and no signage to tell you where the toilets are. A derelict building beside the nat history musem. A run down old toilet block behind the cafe for which the council expect the licensee to pay a lease for and maintain. An unused and overgrown pathway beside the nat. his.museum running up behind the cafe which could be used as a market.
