The team marked Christmas Jumper Day by raising cash to help seven-year-old Joseph Kendrick.
Joseph is the son of football correspondent Paul Kendrick, who works at the Wigan Observer/Wigan Evening Post, newspapers also owned by The News’ parent company Johnston Press.
Joseph has non-ketotic hyperglycinemia – an extremely rare, life-limiting genetic disorder that severely affects his development.
The charity, Joseph’s Goal, has been set up to raise awareness of the condition as well as to raise funds for research.
Editor Mark Waldron, who was also sporting a grey patterned sweater, said: ‘We are proud to support a fellow member of the Johnston Press team. It was a great way to mark Christmas and really got us into the festive spirit. I wish Joseph all the best and hope our small contribution helps his cause.’
The News’ team and students from Highbury College’s year-long NCTJ diploma in journalism raised £49.45.
