THE family of Tom Prince is urging everyone to help them paint the town blue while raising lots of cash for their charity.

His mum Adele, dad Clinton, aunt Maureen, uncle Peter and sister Emma want people of all ages to dig deep this year and help Blue Day on Friday, May 6 go with a bang.

They have been raising funds tirelessly since setting up the Tom Prince Cancer Trust in 2004 – shortly after Tom’s death from teenage bone cancer osteosarcoma only 18 months after being diagnosed.

Blue Day – which is backed by Pompey – is the trust’s biggest event of the year and the family is asking club supporters, schools, businesses, organisations and individuals to help them raise £25,000 for research into the disease.

Adele said: ‘Hopefully as many people as possible will get on board and do some sort of fundraising – it doesn’t have to be a big event, it could just be something as simple as donating to wear blue for the day – every penny makes all the difference.

‘It is always so touching to see people getting involved – some people do some lovely things and every single activity has a big impact on the charity, no matter what size it is.’

Many readers of The News have already registered to take part in Blue Day, hoping to send the family soaring towards their eventual aim of £1m.

They have already generated £580,000 – and £150,000 of that was raised over the previous four Blue Days, held in memory of the avid Pompey fan.

Clinton said: ‘We’ve had a good reaction from people so far this year, even in these dark financial times which is nice.

‘Hopefully everyone will get behind us like they have done in the past and help us raise lots of money for the charity.’

If you’re planning an event and want to feature on our Roll of Honour, make sure you register with the trust – see above for details.

Don’t forget you can download Blue Day’s official track, called Pompey Be Good, from portsmouth.co.uk for a recommended donation of £2 to the charity.
