Marwell Zoo
EVERYTHING from Siberian tigers to baby giraffes and dama gazelles to scimitar horned oryxs – you'll find them all at Marwell Zoological Park, near Winchester.
But this is not just a zoo, it's a centre dedicated to helping preserve rare animals.
Staff in Marwell's Conservation Education Centre teach more than 30,000 children each year, ranging from primary school classes to A-level students, plus university groups and adult education.
Best Sight: Everyone will have a different favourite, but probably the huge Siberian tigers.
Best For Kids: At Close Encounters children get the chance to meet – and touch – some smaller animals.
Opens daily 10am-6pm in summer and 4pm in winter. Summer is from April to the end of October.
Adult entry is 12 with children at 8.50 (3–14 years), OAPs and students cost 10 and there's a senior citizen special every Tuesday at 6. Family tickets (two adults and two children) are 39, and there are reductions available for large groups or booking in advance on–line.
Special tours for blind and visually impaired visitors are available (pre-book on 01962 777945).
