Portsmouth power station in Old Portsmouth shortly before its demolition in 1983

Portsmouth power station, located in Old Portsmouth near the Camber, was demolished in 1983.

It originated in the council’s decision in 1889 to supply electricity to the city’s ever-increasing population and generating began on June 6, 1894.

The station was bombed on January 10, 1941 and nationalised in 1948.
