Fans were buzzing after the feelgood gig at Portsmouth Guildhall, which saw the band play a set heavy on songs from their acclaimed latest album The Seldom Seen Kid.
Frontman Guy Garvey joked with the crowd and at one stage walked among the fans as he belted out favourites like Grounds For Divorce, Weather To Fly and the epic Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver.
Fans sang the refrain:' Throw your curtains wide... one day like this a year would do me right' as Garvey and his band performed hit single One Day Like This.
They danced as the band, accompanied by a string section, rattled through a storming version of earlier hit Leaders of the Free World.
And at Garvey's request they ditched the ritual clapping and cheering for the encore to sing an impromptu version of I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside instead.
The singer acknowledged that the crowd would have included many fans who had only noticed the 18-year-old band after The Seldom Seen Kid's Mercury success.
He joked: 'I'm sure most of you bought your tickets before we won the Mercury Prize. But it's always nice to see new friends too.'
