Key2 throw hat in the ring

From work stations for the chemical industry to display posts for the sports shoe industry.
If it's plastic, Farlington-based Key2 Group reckons it can make it, and so do several other companies, with its products now being seen all over the world.
And with its growing overseas trade the Key2 Group is throwing its hat in the ring in the exporter category of The News Business Excellence Awards.
Key2 makes all sorts of plastic products including rebrand designs for Southern Co-operatives, work stations for chemical companies anddisplays for companies like Adidas.
Many of these are destined for overseas markets with about a third of turnover due solely to the export market – about £426,000.
Boss Mike Keating said: 'We were initially quite surprised we were able to compete with Europe but now it's started we are growing. Although the competition is still tough, the products are good quality so we are still able to compete.'
All this is contributing to an estimated turnover for this year of £1.6m, up from £1.1m last year.
The company was launched in 2002 by Mr Keating. Initially it was just Key2 Plastics, and began life in a 700sq ft unit in Horndean before moving to 2,500sq ft premises at Buriton, near Petersfield.
A year later Mr Keating spotted an opportunity to provide a comprehensive service with everything supplied in-house – which involved investment in new machinery and staff and a third move to a 9,000sq ft factory in Farlington.
