Fareham Shopping Centre was shortlisted for an award at the Purple Apple Awards.
The centre has been nominated for the of category of Overall Strategic Marketing Campaign for the Reduce your carbon footprint campaign.

The campaign encouraged shoppers to recycle their old shoes in support of several local charities.

Centre manager Pam Gillard said: 'It was fantastic to join other shopping centres specialising in marketing to showcase our promotional work at this top national level.

'We're already making preparations for next year's entry which will be even bigger and better.'

The centre launched its new Green Zone in April, which shows shoppers how small steps can lead to big changes.

Shoppers can visit the zone to pick up green hints and tips and enter the centre's latest green campaign to recycle used postage stamps for charity.

Further to cutting Farehams carbon foot print, special mention should also be made for other schemes such as increasing parking charges for a small selection of outdated and frankly boring shops and in doing so, no one from outside Fareham will want to visit!

I can't think of anything better than paying that money to visit Poundland, Wilkinsons or Robert Dyas. It's like Hampshires very own Oxford Street.

Thus no one will visit Fareham by car or at all. Whiteley is a more exciting prospect than Fareham, closely followed by Chernobyl.

P.S Visitors didnt recycle their shoes by choice, it was owing to having to walk so far from cheaper parking spaces outside of the town centre the shoes had broken.

Isn't this the same story that was published on the 26th June. It's not about being green it's about collecting stuff for charity.
'We're already making preparations for next year's entry which will be even bigger and better.'

Better than recycling old shoes? - be still my beating heart!
For my contribution I've decided not to drive to Fareham for a whole year. I await my purple apple award in the post

Fareham Council have a good scheme for cutting the town's carbon footprint, by charging silly money to park = less cars = less carbon

How does making me choose to shop elsewhere help reduce my carbon footprint?
