MORE than 250 football-mad youngsters took part in a tournament to mark the 10th anniversary of a club.
The young players wowed a crowd of about 350 supporters at the Whiteley Junior Football Club competition, held on Saturday.

All the winning youngsters, aged six to 15, in the seven-a-side knockout tournament were awarded medals.

Councillor Chris Cousin, chairman of the recreation committee at Whiteley Parish Council, said the event was a great success.

'The kids seemed to have such a lovely time and so many of them were really good players – I'm sure there were some stars of the future here.

'It was great to see so many people there as well, all enjoying the day and cheering on the players.'

The event was held at Meadowside Recreation Ground, Whiteley. For more on the club, visit www.whiteleyfc.co.uk

Another Whiteley Resident,

Proof if ever there was that, despite claims from a certain FBC councillor living in Whiteley, the Meadowside does indeed see a lot of use. In fact, while FBC are getting rid of pitches, there are plans to increase the number of pitches at Whiteley. There's certainly lots of takers. And to think that if some had had their way, the whole area would have been carved up by now. Good job the people who matter had more sense.
