Clear some space on the dance floor girls – because the boys are in town.
A new all-male dance school has been launched and is set to be a massive hit with teenagers and young men who want to bust some moves.

D2 – which stands for Dare 2 – is one of only two all-male schools in the whole of Hampshire, the other being in Eastleigh.

Dance teacher Katrina Nutland set it up after seeing how keen male students were to dance at the Portchester Community School where she works.

She said: 'There are a lot of teenagers and young men who want to dance but might not want to go along to mixed clubs. This gives them the chance to dance alongside other males in an environment they feel comfortable in.'

The dance school is for 14 to 24-year-olds, of all dancing abilities.

Classes and workshops teach everything from hip hop, street and jive to contemporary ballet and jazz.

But this new school is much more than just a chance for males to take to the dance floor, it is also about challenging the perception of dance itself.

Christian Lawrence, 15, from White Hart Lane, Portchester, is one of the founder members. He said: 'It's really good fun and great to be a part of.

'It shows that dance isn't just for girls and I think it's a really good thing having an all male dance school.

'It gives people confidence, and there's no competitiveness. It's just about enjoying dance and having a laugh.'

Membership of the new dance school is already growing fast.

What a great idea. My son has appeared in several theatre productions around the London and Hampshire area as well as various film and TV roles which require dance. He has dropped dance at school because not many boys have taken it.
