Tony Adams is waiting nervously on a medical update after Niko Kranjcar suffered a setback in his recovery from injury.
The skilful Croatian midfielder underwent ankle surgery and missed two months of the season after he was crocked on international duty back in August.

But following a successful operation and working his way back to fitness, Kranjcar missed the weekend's trip to West Ham after suffering a fresh injury on the same ankle in the 2-1 win at Sunderland.

Adams explained: 'He got a knock on the location of the operation so he didn't train for a few days and did some work in the gym.

'He then came out for training last Thursday and got through the whole session, but told me afterwards that it wasn't right.

'I told him to revisit the surgeon, get another scan and see what's going on with it, so we're waiting for the results.
'Fingers crossed, it's not too bad.'

It's rough luck on the 24-year-old who only returned to the Pompey first-team for the recent 1-1 draw with Fulham.

After substitute appearances against Liverpool and a goal from the bench against Wigan, he made his first start since the opening day of the season at the Stadium of Light.

But Adams insists that he will not rush his star back into action meaning Kranjcar is already doubtful to face Hull City this weekend.

Adams said: 'He has been coming back and making steady progress, but it's better that he takes his time.

'We don't want to inject him or anything like that – I don't like doing that to anybody.

'We want him to get it right.'

It seems to me that all of these top players are accident prone. My coach quite a few years back showed us how to injure a player and then said make sure you keep out of these situations,he did not want us to injure anybody but for us to be safe.some of the Pompey players will not get hurt they dont put themselves about.sorry to hear about these injuries, but todays players seem a bit soft not like Jimmy Scoular

In Jimmy Scoular's day, if a player had an injury he was given a pain killer to mask the pain, and played. When they retired from football, the effects of not being treated correctly became apparent.
Niko's ankle has to last him for the rest of his life, not just for the rest of his playing career.

Also players are very different today to back then. They are much more athletic and finally tuned. Some run near marathons each match, and accelarate quickly (maybe not niko). There are not these sort of injuries in sports such as rugby and such as they are not at the same athletic level

Niko's hardly going to get injured deliberately, is he ? Get well soon, Niko.

Can it be the new "blade" type of boot to blame as it has been proven that they do not allow a player to turn as quickly as the old studded boot.
Apart from that hurry back Niko.

Let's go back to the old "medicine" balls and jumpers for goalposts, too, shall we, BB Martin ?

krancar 19 nobody wants to see a player hurt but generally these type of injuries are caused by fitness of the player.to say rugby and league players are not as mobile is stupid .You can find many players in the past who could keep up with to days players We dont need medicine balls or makeshift posts just balls and maybe tutus
