Johnny Metgod will get to work on Pompey's players in training this week.
Metgod is now set to oversee the sessions with the Blues squad following his arrival from Feyenoord.

But Tony Adams joked that's only because most of his men are away on international duty.

The manager explained he was happy to get in someone he feels he can trust.

Adams said: 'John will bring something to training.

'I'm protective of my babies on the training pitch.

'I'll let him have a little go this week, though, but only because most of the players are away on international duty!'

Adams is pleased the Dutchman has now arrived at the club to help take some of the weight off his shoulders.

The Pompey manager admitted last week he had been placed under a heavy workload since succeeding Harry Redknapp.

But he is happy to place his faith in Metgod to help him out.

Adams explained that trust in his new right-hand man had been built in their time together in Holland.

He had been won over by Metgod's knowledge and manner then.

Adams said: 'I think Johnny took pity on this lonely Englishman when I was at Feyenoord.

'He talked a lot of sense. He took me into his home and looked after me.

'He's been around the block and is a few years older than me with a few less hairs, so I'm pleased to have him.

'I need someone who is no threat and doesn't want my job!'

I admire Tony Adams. I think he's a brilliant character, has had a top class career as a player and commands a lot of respect within the game. But something tells me his openness is going to be his undoing as a manager.

I'm not so sure. I think he's honest enough, unlike some managers we know. He calls a spade a spade and that's fine with me,whereas the other fella doesn't even know what a club is!!

He doesn't let the seriousness of the game get to him and make him a wreck until need be.
