The Blues boss has promised to make changes for the critical trip to Germany.
Adams knows his side's European dream could die at the Volkswagen Arena.
But he is preparing to stick to his guns and make changes as Pompey enter a period of five games in 16 days.
The likes of Niko Kranjcar, Sean Davis and Kanu could all come into the equation, with Adams concerned about the impact that run would have on his men.
Adams insisted making changes wasn't an indication the Uefa Cup was down his list of priorities, however.

'I think one or two are a little bit tired, so that will present other people with an opportunity. We are running on empty at the moment.
'I'm taking the Uefa Cup very seriously, though.
'Just because I'm thinking of making a few changes doesn't mean I'm not taking the game seriously.
'We have a squad of players and we have players who can come in and do a very strong job for this team.
'We have to mix things up a bit because it's a busy period. It is going to test us.
'It will be hard going for us. We have to go again quickly after the game because we have a tough away game after a European fixture.
'Blackburn didn't have to contend with an extra European game before they played us on Sunday.
'That's probably why they looked brighter than us in the first half and didn't look anywhere near as tired.
'Because of that I'm thinking of freshening things up a bit this time.'
Pompey will have one eye on the other group E clash tomorrow night as Braga travel to Heerenveen.
A draw for Wolfsburg will put them through to the knockout stages of the competition.
That would suit Pompey if Braga fail to beat their Eredivisie opponents, who currently sit bottom of group E and desperately need a win.
If that scenario unfolds, it would leave Adams' men needing to beat Heerenveen at Fratton Park in their final game to make it to the round of 32.
With Wolfsburg dropping just two points at home all season, Adams was under no illusions over the size of the task his men faced.
He said: 'It's a difficult away fixture, that's for sure.
'It could be the hardest game we face. A lot depends on what happens in the other game.
'Depending on how Heerenveen get on it could come down to us or them at Fratton Park.
'The other game is important, so it's not all on, our match. We have to keep working on the positives and try to erase those defensive mistakes.
'We have to progress the team and keep looking to improve them as they have been doing lately.'
