Tony Adams has vowed to right Pompey's defensive wrongs this week.
Adams will put his players through a training ground grilling to cut out the sloppy goals which have marred recent games.

The Blues have fallen into the worrying habit of letting leads slip and conceding late goals since Adams succeeded Harry Redknapp.

On top of that have come a string of games where Pompey have been undone by late goals.

The defeat at Liverpool saw the winner scored 14 minutes from time.

The games against Fulham, Wigan, Hull and Milan have all seen David James beaten inside the last three minutes.

Adams insisted the fact Pompey are on a five-game unbeaten run despite that is testament to the resolve among his players.

But he wanted to see his men return to the kind of miserly defending of last season which meant Pompey always won the game if they scored first.

And Adams will be concentrating hard at ironing out those faults at the club's Eastleigh training base this week.

He is determined those problems are eradicated as Pompey go to Wolfsburg in their crunch Uefa Cup clash this week.

Adams said: 'We're five games without a loss at the moment so we are confident going into the game.

'We are on a high, but we are conceding goals and that is something we need to work on.

'That is something we will be looking at this week and something we will have to put right.'

Pompey will need all their defensive know-how as they face a Wolfsburg side in imperious home form this season.

The Germans have only dropped two points at the Volkswagen Arena in the Bundesliga this season.
Adams said: 'We are going into a game against a team who have not lost at home all season.

'They have some strong players, and German sides are always well organised and well drilled, as we all know.

'But the lads have shown great spirit and are confident so it's going to be a great occasion.'
