Sol Campbell told Younes Kaboul: You can become a Premier League star.
The 22-year-old has swiftly established himself as a first-team regular following his Spurs arrival.

After a Chelsea baptism of fire, he is now back in his natural defensive role and the early signs look good.

Kaboul served as the junior partner alongside thirtysomethings Campbell and Sylvain Distin in a three-man defence for the trip to Everton.

The result was a first win of the campaign as Harry Redknapp's men conjured up a superb display.

With the wing-back system likely to be here to stay, Kaboul will be a crucial figure for the Blues this season.

His instant impact has already won him the admiration of Campbell.

And the Pompey skipper has no doubts the French under-21 international can be a big hit on the south coast.

He said: 'Younes has done really well and I think he'll go far.

'He's a young lad who has not played as many games as he would like, but he's getting stronger and stronger, he's energetic and wants to play.

'With more training and more games, he'll get better and better and that's what you want to see from young players.

'Younes is definitely for the future, over the next three or four years he will become an excellent footballer.

'He's impressed me. I like his strength, his pace, his power and how he just wants to defend.

'Against Manchester United, especially, he stepped out from the back with the ball at his feet a couple of times and looked comfortable.

'Most of all, he has this great willingness to learn.

'He sounds like a guy who wants to listen and wants to learn and that's the main thing for any footballer.

'He has to keep on doing well, keep on listening, keep on improving.
'And as long as he keeps on doing that I am sure he'll go far.'

Kaboul's arrival at Fratton Park ended a two-year pursuit for Redknapp.

Spurs fans may have had doubts over his ability, but the Blues boss has no such qualms, reflected by putting him straight into his team.

And Campbell is expecting the youngster to blossom with every game.

He added: 'It takes time to settle in and he's still a young lad.

'Experience will be the making of him, it is for any player.

'You need that time out on the pitch in competitive games.

'It's the only way.

'As time goes on he'll get better and better, without a doubt, and that is great for this football club.'

This is the thing with Kaboul - while he's young he might still have the odd bad game, but by playing him consistently we're building for the future, because Sol won't last forever. And I think that, with Niko out, this formation gets all our best players onto the pitch, in their best positions, so while we play 3-5-2 Kaboul is vital to us.

He's looked good from what I've seen so far and we do need cover for Sol long term. I good purchase I think.

I spoke to a Spurs fan about Kaboul and he said that he looked good but needed to learn when to stick it in Row Z. That looks to be a fair assessment after the first few games.

Prime example of Harry knowing what he is doing, whilst we may all have doubts over playrs at times when linked we have to trust Harry see's something in that player that we don't. This is why he is a Premier football manager and we are simply supporters.

We have to remember Kaboul signed for a big club for a large sum and for a number of reasons was never given the chance. He had injuries and was also played out of position.

The number of players Harry has made a mistake with in his career would not reach double figures. When you consider how many he has bought over the years it is a minority.

PLaying aalongside Sol and Sylvain with Jamo behind him will only give him confidence and in time as Sol says become a quality player.

**** Breaking News ****

Gary Glitter has said he wants to hide away in hampshire, with no media coverage, no real work to do and no one watching him constantly. Southampton have signed him on a 2 year deal. Ha Ha Play up Pompey!

kabul, campbell and distin can form a very good patrnership in defence. they are 3 of the storngest defenders in the league, give them time to gel and teams will struggle to get past them.

I am a fan of the 3-5-2 formation harry is currently playing. I think when niko is fit he could play just behind defoe and crouch where he will be more confortable and we can really attack defences.
