Sol Campbell has dropped his biggest hint yet he will not be returning to Pompey.
And the Blues captain warned the doubt surrounding the club's future is putting him off signing a new deal at Fratton Park.

Campbell became a free agent yesterday as his current contract came to a close.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs including St Etienne, Basel and Greek side Atromitos.

Campbell revealed he is still keen to play on at the top level level for another two years, and is weighing up his options.

Pompey are keen to reopen talks with the former England international and executive chairman Peter Storrie has stated they have already held tentative discussions.

But it appears the uncertainty surrounding the club as the proposed takeover by Sulaiman Al Fahim drags on will stop Campbell committing to the side he joined in 2006.

That is a big blow with Pompey's squad already short on numbers with pre-season training starting next week.

Campbell said: 'There's a few options out there. I'm out of contract and I'm going to listen to different offers.

'With Portsmouth they have to organise themselves and there's a lot of things happening there.

'I want to make the right choice. In the next two to three years I want to be in the right situation.

'The chairman, the manager and people like that, I like them to be really close together to move the club on.

'At the moment with Portsmouth it just seems there're a lot of things in the background.

'It may resolve itself, I don't know, but for me, as a player, I want to be in the right environment. For at least the next two years, the right environment to be successful.'

Exactly Newtown!!!

Here is a post I put up yesterday. I think I may be psychic!!

"Don't you jsut love all these people saying "just give him 40k a week" or "70k a week at most".

Would you take a 30% or 60% pay cut?? When your other option is to join a new club (employer) with a huge signing on fee or wages at a similar level to now??

Unless the new owner lines Sol's pockets he is gone. Lets not even kid ourselves he is loyal to Pompey."

I agree olu, this take over is taking far to long.

Training starts next week, we have no owners, no manager, no caching staff, and about 8 players!!!

What do you propose they do POMPEYBEN?

If he wants to go let him. He was poor last season. No way worth even £40k p/w. I'd much rather see Kaboul partner Distin in the middle and Cranie as RB.

I for one won't miss him. Lets be honest, he didn't exactly set the field on fire last season did he. He's seen his best years and now he's just running down before he retires. If he leaves, good luck and thanks for all you have done for us, if he stays, lets hope he ups his game this coming season.

Im gutted that the post's on here is saying wait till Al comes in get rid of this player davis, campbell and even hermann, when campbell gose to westham,(most probably) who will be our leader???,as i cant see distan staying around realy and jamestoo we should of cut our wage bill but this is going TO far so we wont be able to compete in the premier leauge and a few agree with me we can be in serious trouble on and off the pitch as virtualy every player would be re signed at their clubs and the better players would have allready been signed up by clubs.thats the plan if the take over happens,if it dosent then we are in meltdown!!!,when players say we dont know whats going on,dont be fooled as they have a better idear than most supporters, why do you think H.H was the only one to be offered a contract and signed as he knows he'll play more this season and if bacerlona renew their intrest in belhadji,be carefull what you wish for fickle fans(a.k.a non season ticket holders),
