Peter Crouch has set his sights on firing Pompey to a European return.
The Blues striker has targeted breaking the 20-goal barrier to ensure his side are playing in the Uefa Cup again next season.

Crouch was the hero as Pompey bid farewell to the tournament with a 3-0 win against Heerenveen last night.

His quick-f
ire double before the break sent Tony Adams' men on the way to a comfortable success.

The 6ft 7in hitman was pleased with his efforts, but felt there were more goals in the game for him.

His double took him to 11 for the season – and he was determined to repeat that return over the second half of the campaign to ensure Pompey are involved in the competition again.

Crouch said: 'I was pleased. Scoring goals is what you are there for as a striker.

'I was pleased to get a couple, but I thought there were a few more there for me.

'It's important we had a good result. We didn't want to slide away unnoticed from the Uefa Cup and go out with a whimper.

'It was important to do that for the fans. They have enjoyed us being in Europe this season and we should have gone through.

'We want Europe next season now. If I get the same total as I've got now after Christmas that will be a health tally for me.

'It's going to be tough to get back in the Uefa Cup, there are lot of teams vying for that position. We've had a taste of teams coming to Fratton Park like AC Milan, though – now we want more of it.'

PK it was practically because Kanu made that second goal, he waltz round 4 players and the keeper made a fantastic save but palmed it into Crouch's feet so Kanu deserved the praise. Crouchie though there was some poor finishing last night he could have had 5 goals, 2 in the 1st 10 minutes MUST TAKE THE CHANCES IN PREM. I was really impressed by the Wilson lad comfortable on either foot great long passing ability composed and not even a right back, centre midfielder I hear give him ago looks like he is the forward passing midfielder we need and the balls he supplys Defoe and Crouchie will have a field day worth a shot. Mvuemba don't cut it for me he did the exact pass he did to gift the toon at weekend twice last night and everyone knows what would of happened in the league if he did that. Defence was solid well done.

Im hoping Crouch stays after the window! I like the guy, and have done since I seen him play for Liverpool, even if he didnt get many games really

When i heard he was coming to Pompey I was so glad as I knew he would make his mark here! If Defoe does go then im sure we can replace him, but Crouch just seems to be the sort of person thats in the right place, at the right time! I like Defoe and want him to stay, but if we were to loose a striker, im sure we can afford another like Defoe for the money Pompey will get for him

the only way we can replace defoe is if spurs come in for him and we turn down a few bids and they say we will accept 5 million and darren bent ! that would be good business.

Carlton Cole would be a very cheap replacement.

That's not a bad suggestion Lber, I've seen Carlton Cole play and he's quality.

Carlton Cole....dont make me laugh he is another Heskey....Does a lot of the donkey work and puts himself about, but cant score!! If the rumours are true and we lose either Defoe/Crouch....we need a goalscorer to replace them i would hardly call someone who cant even hit the target a goalscorer!!
